Back in the days of hot rods and hula hoops, Rex's Drive-In was a popular local gathering spot featuring car hops, state-of-the-art curb service, indoor dining, carry outs and pizza.

In 1976, remodeling to change with the times, the drive-in was eliminated, the restaurant enlarged and converted to a full service establishment and the name changed to Rex's Cork and Fork.  The busy lounge featured local entertainment.

Nearing its 25th anniversary, the restaurant suffered a devastating fire on February 19, 1980.  Seizing the opportunity to make some additional upgrades in the interior design, the restaurant was rebuilt featuring the layout as it is today.

Mike Kaatz joined the kitchen team in 1965 and remained until the restaurant was sold in 1990.  In 1994, the opportunity to purchase arose, and Mike and his wife, Darlene, took over and made creative menu upgrades with the addition of a full-time chef.  In August, 2000 the restaurant was awarded the "Best of the Best" distinction in the Steak category from Sunday Images Magazine readers' poll for all of Kane County.  In  April 2002, the Kane County Chronicle Reader's Poll gave the restaurant one of the best in the "Best Steaks in Kane County" category.
